En una entrevista para la página web del Manchester United, Patrice Evra ha hablado sobre el enfrentamiento que tuvo con Luis Suárez en un partido que les enfrentó en 2011, cuando el uruguayo militaba en el Liverpool. El actual delantero del Barcelona insultó de gravedad al lateral izquierdo galo.

«Le defendía en los córners. En español me decía: ‘no me toques, no hablo con un negro’. No sabía quizás que yo hablaba español y le dije que tenía razón. El árbitro vino y preguntó qué pasaba con los dos. Vio mis ojos cambiar y me preguntó lo que pasaba. Le dije que Suárez lanzó un insulto racista y dijo que hablaríamos después del partidos. Que continuásemos jugando y que no hiciésemos nada estúpido. Durante el partido me decía a mí mismo que si le golpeaba la gente me vería como el malo. La gente olvidaría lo que él ha dicho. No estaba concentrado en el juego. Tras el partido, Ferguson me vio mal y me preguntó qué pasaba. De Gea se lo dijo. En ese instante, fuimos a ver al árbitro y le conté lo que pasó», comenta el futbolista galo.

Por ese insulto, Suárez tuvo que pagar 48.000 euros y estar ocho partidos lejos de los terrenos de juego.
